Robert J. Burge Sr., 82, Kokomo, passed away at 1:18 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo. He was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Howard County to Marshal L. and Anna Rachel (Haworth) Burge. He married Linda M. Sites on Nov. 2, 1957, in Kokomo, and she survives.
Robert was a machine operator for Dietzen's Bakery in Kokomo for several years before it closed. He later worked for Lewis Brothers in Marion, Indiana, and owned and operated Burge Lawn Care for 48-plus years. He enjoyed tractor pulls, cars, bowling, but most importantly he enjoyed his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Burge, Kokomo, and his children, Robert (Tamara) Burge Jr., Kokomo; Jamie Cole, Frankfort; and Paul (Mindy) Burge, Walton. Surviving grandchildren include, Jordan DeWitt and fiancée Heather Carter, L. Seth Burge, Rachel (Andrew) Berkshire, Mason Cole, Matt (Amber) Wallace, Holly Wood, Austin Oakes, Tyecha Oakes and Kyle Oakes. Surviving great-grandchildren include, Keith Joseph Edward Berkshire, Ronin DeWitt, Gavin Wallace, Hanna Wood, Henley Wood and Makiha Chandler. He is also survived by his three sisters, Kay, Mary and Katie, and brother and sisters-in-law, Butch and Chris Alcorn, Keith and Donna Ebert, David and Sharon Sites and John Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, with burial to follow at North Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, also at the funeral home.
