Robert 'Bob''s Story
Robert L. "Bob" Long, 87, Greentown, passed away at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 201, at his home. Robert was born April 26, 1930, in Kokomo, to the late Theodore Long and Irene (Woodruff) Long. Robert married Dixie Retz on March 30, 1992 in Kokomo. Dixie preceded him in death Sept. 2, 2012.
Robert served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1950. He received the Navy Occupational Ribbon. He worked at Millbanks for 20 years. He enjoyed camping playing cards, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Debra Jean Miller (Allan), Vickie Lynn Miller, Connie Bitzell (Alan) and Tammy Bowman (Jimmy); 12 grandchildren, Becky Hovis, Brenda Miller, Michelle Miller, William Miller II, Kimberly Miller, Johnathan Bowman (Daryl), Alison Hulsey (Craig), Alan Miller II, Kimberly Veitch, Andrew Miller, Jason Harris and Jacob Lake; along with 10 great-granchildren; and a brother, Carl Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dixie Long; grandson Joshua Cockrell; and a sister-in-law Betty Long.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Phil Bunce officiating. Burial will be in Converse Cemetery, Converse, Indiana, with Military Rites. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
