Peggy Joan Butler, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 5:02 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at St. Vincent Kokomo. She was born March 31, 1945, in Kokomo, the daughter of Kenneth and Katherine (McKee) Wines. On Dec. 31, 1960, in Kentucky, she married John Butler, who preceded her in death April 12, 1998.
Peggy was passionate about fostering children, opening her home and her heart to over 100 children. She enjoyed spending warm summer evenings at the baseball stadium watching the Jackrabbits play. She was "Mom" and "Mamaw" to many, always willing to open her home as a gathering place. She loved being on the go, always ready for a new adventure. Peggy worked for Adept Custom Molders as a press operator.
Peggy is survived by her father, Harley Engle; children, Carmen (Charles) Eltringham, Kathy (Steve) Stull, Sherry (Phillip) Degler, Ke'Mari Butler, Kay'den Butler, and Khloe Henry; grandchildren, Charley (Hannah) Eltringham, Cheyenne (Kyle) Hughes, Kade Sparks, Johnie Lott, Jonah and Jordan Degler, Tichelle Olivares; great-grandchildren, Sam, Nathan, and Little Hannah Eltringham, Kayden and Kylee Dierks, Kamden and Korlynn Olivares-Degler; siblings, Carolyn (Bill) Goldsberry, Faye (Roger) Mennon, Thurman (Celeste) Wines, Mark (Vicky) Engle, Marcia Keating, and Charlene (Benny) Brown; best friend, Nancy Eltringham; and her beloved pet, Lucy.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Wines; mother, Katherine Engle; daughter, Frankie Butler; brothers, Darrell Wines and Melvin Wines; sister, Karen Herrington; and granddaughter, Dannyellee Schafer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with the Rev. Audry Gard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
