Paul 'Shakey''s Story
Paul "Shakey" Edmund Martin, 84, Kokomo, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. He was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Eagle Lake, Maine, to the late Joseph and Modeste (Bouchard) Martin. Shakey was married to Wanetta (Dowden) Martin in 1955.
In 1952 he joined the Army and served in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1954. He worked at Continental Steel for 31 years, retiring from there in 1986, just before they shut their doors. Shakey was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an avid bowler and belonged to the Kokomo Bowling Association. He was an active member of Victory Baptist Church.
He loved fishing, country/western movies, sports and long walks. He would walk six miles daily around Highland Park. Shakey loved spending time with his family, giving them many happy memories.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Reginald "Peanut," Norman, Harold, and Alberte; sisters, Della Fuller, Lottie Blanchette, and Theresa Gamblin; sons, Eddie Paul, Richard, and Ronnie Phillip; daughter, Mary Ann; and granddaughter, Laura Beth Cox.
Shakey is survived by sisters, Blanche LaJoie and Rolande Woodward; sons Kevin (Patty) Martin and Jonathon Martin; Granddaughters, Jessica (Jordan) Phifer and Chasity Marie Martin; stepgrandson, Justin Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Lexie, Noah, Graysen and Jocelynn.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Victory Baptist Church, 610 W. Alto Road, with Pastor Mike Ennis officiating. Following graveside services, there will be a wake to celebrate Shakey's life at Victory Baptist Church.
