Norma's Story

Norma J. Schroll Harrison, 83, Kokomo, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. She was born March 4, 1934, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Marvin L. and Thelma V. (Mishler) Kottman. She married Donald L. Schroll on Aug. 23, 1953, and he preceded her in death July 17, 1993. She then married David A. Harrison on Nov. 26, 2005 and he preceded her in death July 27, 2011.
Norma was a 1952 graduate of Aledo High School in Aledo, Illinois, and attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. She retired from Ambassador Steel Corp. after 21 ½ years of service. Prior to Ambassador Steel, Norma worked with the Tipton County Health Department in vital statistics, as well as with the research department for Trojan Seed Co. and Pfizer Genetics. She was also a member of Greentown Wesleyan Church.
Norma felt very blessed, and her greatest joy was to watch her children grow, mature, and excel in all their endeavors in school and in life. She enjoyed cheering them on in all the sporting events they were involved in. Roses were one of her favorite flowers and she loved tending them. These last four years the rose bushes were beautiful at Primrose. Most of all, Norma's family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, were very important to her and she loved them very much.
Norma is survived by children, Catherine (Dan) LaValley, Battle Creek, Michigan, Jan McCorkle and companion, Jeffery Conaway, Tipton, Judy (Jeff) Franklin, Sharpsville, and Tim (Kathy) Schroll, Lafayette; grandchildren, Josh (Amy) Alley, Bloomington, Ryan (Alex) Schroll, Delphi, Jarrin (Jen) Franklin, Mooresville, Steven and significant other, Catie, LaValley, Raliegh, North Carolina, Justin (Jenna) Franklin, Mountana. Juliet, Tennessee, Jena (Steve) Welker, Greencastle, Jessica (Kevin) Salsbery, Columbus, Indiana, Janelle (Justin) McKee, Westfield, Christina (Kevin) Griffin, Rossville, Caitlin LaValley, Battle Creek, Michigan, Miranda Schroll, Lafayette, and Jarod (Kayla) Curwick, Riverview, Florida; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Welker, Jarrin and Ella Alley, Jackson, James, Katyruth, Jacob, and Karoline Salsbery, Samuel and Norah McKee, Jocelyn, Jemma, and Joelle Franklin, Brayden Franklin, Alexis and Aiden Griffin, Kinleigh Schroll and baby brother due in May, as well as Mckenzie, Haley, Hunter, and Maycie Curwick; cousins, Randy Schamberger, Niceville, Florida, and Lucette Schamberger, St. Pete, Florida.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin L. and Thelma V. Kottman; husbands; stepfathers, Glen Stancliff, and Ralph Bailey; and sisters, Marlene Guthrie and Joyce V. Kottman.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Primrose Retirement Community, Waterford Place Health Campus, and Great Lakes Hospice. They also wish to express their love and gratitude to Norma's personal caregivers, Shelly Asher, Lisa Whitehead, and Terri Besser for their loving care.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Greentown Wesleyan Church, 120 N. Maple St., Greentown, with Pastor Paul Boss officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
