Michael "Big Mike" Geary, 29, passed away after a short illness on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. He was born Jan. 26, 1988, in Kokomo, to his parents, Mark and Kim Geary. Kim preceded him in death.
Michael leaves behind a loving family; brothers Myles Geary (Denise) and Matt Geary (Nicole), and nephews Turner, Jordan, Camden and Chase. He also had a very special niece, Adelaide. Family wasn't about blood to Michael, he counted everyone he met among his family and friends.
Michael graduated from Western High School in 2007 and worked at Greeno Insurance. Anyone who met Michael never could say they were without a friend. There did not seem to be enough hours in a day for all of the phone calls, emails and messages that he sent every day to encourage people. He had a heart for those dealing with drug addiction. He remembered people's sobriety dates and he encouraged them to stay the course. He reminded people that their lives had value and that they should look past any hardship life had dealt them. Although confined to a wheelchair his entire life, Michael was not one to complain; his feet never got tired and he always got to park close to the door.
A legacy fund has been set up through the Community Foundation, to benefit The Gilead House. The Gilead House specializes in drug and alcohol addiction recovery and provides resources to those re-entering society from jail or prison. You may make contributions to the Michael "Big Mike" Geary fund. Forms are available at the Community Foundation, 212 W Sycamore St or at Greeno Insurance, 600 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo, IN 46902.
Don't forget what you learned about caring for people from Michael. Continue to care for and encourage those people who need it the most. He spent 29 years teaching us to care about others, now go out and put that training to good use.
A celebration of life will take place in the future. Stout and Son Funeral Homes are assisting the family with cremation. Messages of condolence may be left at www.stoutandson.com.
