Max Dean Hurt, 53, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at his Fairmount residence. Max was born Aug. 3, 1964, in Marion, the son of L.D. Hurt and Bettie G. (Harvey) Hurt. Max graduated from Madison-Grant High School in 1983.
In spite of his disability, Max was the boss. He did more in his 53 years than most do in a lifetime. Max was proud of being one of the oldest living kidney transplant recipients in Indiana. He received his kidney transplant in 1985, knee replacement in 1995, and a cornea transplant in 2002. A beloved and enthusiastic Madison-Grant Argyll fan, Max announced high school and little league baseball and football games for 20 years, and was known on WBAT Radio as Mr. Argyll, often giving highlights of the night's basketball game. Max also loved Indiana University basketball, Indiana Pacers, NASCAR racing, playing shuffleboard, and the Chicago Cubs. He was able to see this Cubs win the third game of the World Series. Max was a Son of the American Legion, Fairmount Post 313.
Max is survived by this parents, L.D. and Bettie Hurt, Fairmount; brothers, Mark (Nancy) Hurt, Kokomo, and Matthew (Joleen) Hurt, Spring Arbor, Michigan; nephews, Daniel and Caleb; nieces, Ana, Makayla, and Chelsea; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation for Max will be 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Madison-Grant High School Auditorium, 11700 S. E00W, (Indiana 9) Fairmount. Please enter through door Number 7. There will be an American Legion Service at 6 p.m. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, in the Madison-Grant High School Gymnasium, with Pastor Brock Meyer officiating. Please enter through door Number 2. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Max's memory to the Madison-Grant Summer Sports League in care of the funeral home to be used for tangible equipment and supplies for the Max Hurt Field. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount.
