Max's Story

Max L. Hartman, 59, Kokomo, passed away at 1:17 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, in the Emergency Room of St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born Aug. 18, 1957, in Indianapolis, the son of Leonard & Dorothy (Metcalf) Hartman. On Feb. 20, 2004, he married Cindy Nay and she survives.
Max was a 1976 graduate of Northwestern High School. He farmed with his family from the age of 9 until 2001 when he began working for Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home and Cemetery. Most recently, Max worked for the City of Kokomo Parks Department. Max was a 10 year member of the Howard County 4-H program, as well as a previous Farm Bureau member. Max loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his beloved dog Leah. He was an avid Purdue fan and also took great pride in his landscaping.
Max is survived by his wife, Cindy Hartman, Kokomo; sons, Brian (Holly) Hartman, Sharpsville, and Craig Hartman, Franklin, Tennessee; parents, Leonard and Dorothy Hartman, Kokomo; step-children, Michele Ables, Sharpsville and Justin (Breanne) Gingerich, Chicago; grandchildren, MaKylee Hartman, Blake Hartman, Tyler Ables, Kirsten Ables; siblings, twin sister, Marla (Derek) Ferraro, Kokomo, Richard (Cara) Hartman, Kokomo, and Carolee (Curt) Sandacz, Chardon, Ohio; along with several nieces and nephews.
Max was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Hartman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Rev. Ken Spangler officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home.
