Mary's Story

Mary Lou (Helton) Ragon, 81, Sharpsville, passed away at 5:11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at North Woods Village in Kokomo. She was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Indiana to Arthur and Eva Lucille (Ronk) Helton. On March 9, 1955, at Fairlawn United Brethren Church, she married Hoyt L. Ragon. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She worked at Haynes Stellite and retired from Delco Electronics after over 30 years of service. She lived in the Sharpsville area most of her life and was a 1954 graduate of Eastern High School. She was married to Hoyt L. Ragon for 39 years and enjoyed listening to him play his guitar.
Mary Lou was devoted to her nieces and nephews. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her nephew's children, Laynie and Bryleigh. Mary Lou and her sister, Judy, were devoted to each other and spent many years living together watching their favorite game shows, also shopping and visiting family. They took great pride in their Native American heritage and family history.
She is survived by her sister, Jan (Vern) McClish, Mission, Texas; one brother-in-law, Ed Dunlap, Greentown; nieces, Patsy Howell, Sandy Risner, Malinda Wilcox, and Melissa Chandler; nephews, Rob Bales, Jimmie Bales, Jason Bales, David Dunlap, Kenny Dunlap, Dan Dunlap, and Michael Thurmond. There are also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, John Helton, Donald Helton, and Forest Helton; and sisters, Barb Dunlap, Wiladean Thurmond, Willette Helton, Patsy Sue Helton, and Judith Bales.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. Pastor William Salsbery will officiate. Burial will follow in Sharpsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the mortuary.
