Mark J. Thatcher


Mark J. Thatcher, 60, Brownsburg, formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2019, at his home. He was born April 16, 1959, in Kokomo, the son of William E. and Phyllis Jean (Gabriel) Thatcher.
Mark was a 1977 graduate of Kokomo High School and a graduate of Ball State University. He retired from the Kokomo Police Department. Mark was a great carpenter and woodworker. He had built many beautiful pieces of furniture and custom cabinetry.
Mark is survived by his father and stepmother, William and Donna Thatcher; daughters, Danielle Markwell and Abigail DeFord; siblings, Philip (Sara) Thatcher, Scott (Elizabeth) Thatcher, and Patty Thatcher; special friends, Doug and Amber Turner; stepsiblings, Chuck (Sherrie) Wheeler, Scott Wheeler, and Bill Wheeler, along with several aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Thatcher.
Private burial will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Mark's memory to a charity of the donor's choice. Messages of condolence may be left online at
