Marianna (Shepard) Gollner, 82, Kokomo entered heaven at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017. She was born May 6, 1935, in Kokomo, Indiana. She was the daughter of George W. and Olive M. (Martzoff) Shepard.
She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1953. On April 11, 1964, she married Albert E. Gollner at First Baptist Church, and he survives.
Marianna worked as a bookkeeper at Borden Ice Cream Co. and later at Haynes Stellite. She served along with her husband in the Rescue Department of Civilian Defense for several years. She was a 50-year member of the Sigma Eta Sorority and participated in Keyboard Capers.
Her life revolved around her family and her church. She enjoyed weekend camping trips and traveling around the USA with her familyvisiting all 48 contiguous states. In her later years, she enjoyed giving piano lessons to many of her grandchildren.
She was a member of First Baptist Church for 70 years and served in many capacities. In her younger days, she was a youth sponsor, Sunday school teacher, organist, choir member and soloist and held many offices in the Mary and Martha missionary circle. More recently, she served as church clerk, on the Board of Christian Education, was a Bible study leader, and led children's worship for over 20 years.
She loved to sing. She had fond memories of singing in community choirs and sang portions of Handel's "Messiah" and Vivaldi's "Gloria" and was a soloist.
At home, she taught a Child Evangelism Good News Club for many years, led a Webelo Scout troop, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed visiting shut-ins and, as her health declined, she developed an extensive ministry of praying for people and sending encouragement cards. Most recently, she played the organ monthly at Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, Marianna is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Angela Gollner and Mark and Stacie Gollner, both of Kokomo, as well as 10 grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Nathan, Esther, Noah, Joshua, Ruth, Mary, Abigail and Matthew Gollner; and one stepgranddaughter, Kristen Morefield.
A service to remember her life and honor her Savior will be take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 4439 E. 406 South, Hemlock, with her son, Pastor Steve Gollner officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road.
