Lisa Christine Graves, 26, Kokomo, passed away at 1:52 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo after a lifelong battle with mitochondrial disease. She was born Oct. 10, 1991, in Kokomo, the daughter of William B. and Denise L. (Bass) Graves.
She lived at home in her family's care until the age of 5, when she became a resident of Camelot Care Center in Logansport for 18 years from 1996 to 2014. While at Camelot, she attended the Special Education Program at Logansport High School, graduating with a certificate of completion in 2014. Following graduation, Lisa lived with her family from 2015 to 2016. She then became a resident of Golden Living Center in Kokomo.
Lisa loved being around people. She enjoyed the feeling of the fresh air when her family would take her for walks in her wheelchair. She also enjoyed the closeness of sitting with her family members and relaxing in her Papasan chair.
Along with her parents, Lisa is survived by her siblings, Philip A. Graves and Kathryn B. (Clint) Smith; maternal grandparents, Bill and Reida Bass; paternal grandmother, Marcia Costello; aunts and uncles, Bill and Heather Bass, Troy Bass, Julie Bass, Nathan Bass, Nick and Melody Graves, and Debra O'Neal; niece, June A.C. Smith; and many cousins.
Lisa was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, C. Wilbur Graves; paternal stepgrandparents, Marjorie and Bob Weppler; and paternal stepgrandfather, Robert Costello.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. David Berry officiating. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
