Linda "Jean" Imogene Rush, 88, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 19, 2017 at Kindred Healthcare. Jean was born in Forkridge, Tennessee to Walter and Flora Allen on Oct. 19, 1928. She married Charlie Brewer in September 1943 and he is the father of her children. She married James Rush on Nov. 24, 1966.
Jean owned and operated the Hillbilly Inn Cafe on West Markland for 16 years. She was also an active member of Christian Heritage Worship Center. Second oldest of her siblings, Jean was a caregiver for most of her life. Jean and her husband Jim retired and moved to Hawthorne, Florida for over 20 years before returning to Kokomo to be with family.
Jean is survived by her son, Jerry Brewer, Kokomo; daughter, Sharon Mickler, Kokomo; stepson, Ronald Rush, Florida; stepdaughter, Debra Medlock, Arkansas; brothers, Jim Allen, Florida, Bill (Darlene) Allen, Kokomo, and Doug (Barbara) Allen, Tennessee; sisters, Barbara (Bob) Howard, Kokomo, and Judy (Bob) Burton, Kokomo; sister-in-law, June Allen, Florida; grandchildren, Lindsey(Mike), AJ (Todei), Randi (Andy), Kelly (Dominick), Stephanie (William), Timothy (Jaime), Christina (Kevin), Matthew and Josh; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Brewer; second husband, James Rush; daughter, Joyce Phillapy; brothers, Mack, Charles and Kenneth Allen; sister, Eloise Bowman; and grandchild, Kelly.
A funeral service for the family and close friends will be held for Jean at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dennis Chapman. Jean will be laid to rest at Nevada Cemetery.
