Lila M. Brooks, 92, Kokomo, celebrated her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, in Heaven, passing away at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Atamus, Kentucky, the daughter of Floyd and Ola (Dean) Saylor. On July 3, 1946, she married Neil Brooks Jr., and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1996.
Lila was a member of the Southern Baptist faith. She was a homemaker and supported her husband, former president of UAW Local 685, in his many community endeavors while providing a loving home for their family.
Left to cherish her memories are son, Gary (Marsha) Brooks; daughter, Diana (David) Hale, both of Kokomo; six grandchildren, Tara (Rob) Walker, Jana (Brian) Caudill, Hope Brooks, Temple Dominick, Deron (Julie) Hale and Amy (Marc) Imboden; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Cottrell, Florence Cox, and Joy (James) Bolinger, all of Harrogate, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Brooks; and sister, Dorothy Gilpin.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wellbrooke of Kokomo and Guardian Angel Hospice for the amazing, loving care extended to Lila and the family in her final days.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Chaplain Will Price officiating.
