Larry's Story

Larry Joe Vawter ,79, died suddenly on January 22, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. Larry was born January 8, 1938 in Tipton County, IN. He graduated from Prairie Township High School in 1956.
After graduating, Larry joined the US Navy, where he served 20 years and retired in 1977 as a Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy he was stationed in Memphis, Michigan, Jacksonville, FL, and Alaska in addition to Iceland, Japan and on the aircraft carrier US Ranger.
While in the Navy he married Kay Morgan in Wilmington, TN in 1962. They had two children, Karen and Chad.
After retiring from the Navy, Larry worked for Computer Data Point later retiring in Jacksonville, Florida. Larry enjoyed playing golf with his son. Larry was an avid follower of all sports and particularly enjoyed watching golf and women's basketball. He loved coming to Indiana and visiting with his mother, family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Chad, daughter, Karen Bridges, granddaughter Ashley (Jimmy) Zimlich, brothers Bill (Maida) Vawter, Larry (Jan) Unger, and Max (Betty) Unger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Unger and sister, Donna Miller.
There will be a graveside service at Middlefork Cemetery on June 18, 2017 at 2 PM.
