Larry's Story

Larry Edwin Schaaf Bailey, 74, Kokomo, surrounded by his family, was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 7:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born July 18, 1943, to the late Howard and One Lee (Schaaf) Bailey. On Nov. 30, 1963, he married Virginia Alexander at St. Joan of Arc Church.
Larry was a 1961 graduate of Eastern High School and was employed with General Motors for 46 years as a millwright. Larry was a member of both the Russiaville Masonic Lodge 82 and the Indianapolis Order of Scottish Rite. He earned 8th Dan Grandmaster in martial arts and won a World Cup while competing in the country of Hungary.
Left to cherish his memory, until they're reunited again, are his wife, Virginia Bailey, Kokomo; daughters, Penny Frazier, Kokomo, and Vanessa (Bruce) Engelhardt, La Vernia, Texas; sister-in-law, Janet Bailey, Kokomo; brothers-in-law, George (Jean) Alexander, Kokomo, and John (Janice) Alexander, Greentown; nieces and nephews, Derik (Laura) Bailey, Leigh Ann (Craig) Heathcoat, Bryan (Tammy) Alexander, Hoyt (Brenda) Alexander, Bart (Susie) Alexander, Doug (Kim) Alexander, Scott (Karen) Alexander, Curt (Jennifer) Alexander, and Teresa (Don) Bryant.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Bailey.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 602 W. Superior St., Kokomo, with Fr. Richard Lightsey officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mast Hensler Cemetery in Greentown. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL, 33607, or the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN, 46278, for soft tissue sarcoma research.
