Junior's Story

Junior Earl Morehead, 86, Kokomo, passed away at 11:08 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at his residence. Junior was born Aug. 25, 1930, to John W. Morehead and Goldie Masters Morehead. He married his wife, Novice Louise Smith, on June 29, 1952, in Kokomo. She preceded him in death.
Dad served in the Army during the Korean War in 1946. He fibbed his age so he could go into the service with his brothers. Dad enjoyed holiday get-togethers and all the good food he helped Mom prepare. One of his favorite things during the holidays was eating the sweet potato pie the Story sisters made for him. He loved watching the grandkids open gifts and playing jokes on them. Dad and Mom loved taking the kids to their cottage in Michigan in the summer time. One of Dad's favorite things was when they would be at the cottage, and he would make all the kids huge banana splits. All the kids loved them. Dad and Mom enjoyed going antique shopping and traveling to different states finding antiques. He wasn't in to sports much, but he loved working in the yard and doing handy work in the house. Dad had many skills. Before going to Chrysler, he made a living doing cement work and brick work. He was a skilled painter and furnace repairer at Chrysler. Dad was so skilled at painting he never had to tape anything off. Ten years before they retired, Mom and Dad bought an older home, gutted it and redid it to live in. He would help anyone in need whether it be financial or otherwise. Dad was an all-around great man and he will be greatly missed. We love you, Dad.
Junior is survived by his daughters, Virginia Hayes and Joyce Neal (Gene); one sister, Betty Watson; and grandchildren, Toni Bennett (Terri), Tonya McDuffie, Kokomo, Angie Brookings (David) Knoxville Tennessee, and Greg Hendrick, Lafayette.
Junior was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Novice; two children, Ronald Bennett and Connie Gilbert; two brothers; and three sisters and grandchildren, Doug McDuffie and Marrianne Hayes.
