John LaMar Rayl


John LaMar Rayl, 82, Tipton, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019, at his home. He was born March 16, 1937, in Prairie Township, the son of the late Ralph and Delorous (Leckrone) Rayl. On Dec. 29, 1957, he married Janet Dickover, and she survives.
John was a 1955 graduate of Prairie Township High School. He was a lifelong farmer, beginning shortly before graduating from high school, a real estate broker for 20 years, and a school bus driver for Tri-Central Schools for 37 years. John was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus. He served on the board of trustees and as treasurer for the Liberty Cemetery. His hobbies included flipping old homes, building and flying airplanes. John loved to visit with people and shared whatever interest they might have and enjoyed reading history and had a good knowledge of the same. He traveled to Europe, Africa, Alaska and Russia.
Along with his wife of 61 years, Janet, John is survived by his son, Mark (Martha) Rayl; grandchildren, Aloa Breanna (Scott) Armstrong and Addie Lauren (Kyle) Zahn; great-grandsons, Ellick Edward Armstrong and Beauregard Robert Zahn; a great-granddaughter due in July; brother, Philip J. (Anabeth) Rayl; nephews, Edward Jay (Lori) Rayl, Philip Jovon (Lisa) Rayl and Bill (Patty) Utsler; great-nieces, Gabrielle (Ross) Huff and Sophie and Cecelia Rayl; great-nephews, Nathan, Logan, and Holden Rayl and Braxton Utsler; and uncles, Dean (Susan) Leckrone, who was raised like a brother, and Howard (Rosemary) Leckrone.
John was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Wayne Leckrone.
John's family was everything to him and he always looked forward to family gatherings.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2019, at Liberty Baptist Church, 3530 N. 1000 West, Tipton, with Pastors Mariah Tigner, Bob Lawson, and Jeff Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

John has always been one of my favorite farmers who came to visit FSA whether in Tipton or Howard Counties. He always had a smile, a story and some laughs. Heaven is a richer place with John as a resident. 💕
