John G. McCurtain, 80, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Nov. 23, 1936 in Miami County to Ozark and Rancy McCurtain. On Nov. 17, 1957, he married Marry Ellen (Colescott) McCurtain at the Jerome Christian Church in rural Greentown. They had four sons, David, Paul, Christopher and Mark.
John graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1954 and EMT class in 1979. He worked at Bryan Steam Corp. from 1979 to 2002, and also worked at Dukes Memorial Hospital as an EMT for 32 years. John was a gun and music buff, having working in sporting goods for a number of years. He was also very interested in world and early American history.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; sons, David and Christopher; and grandchildren, Amber and Paul McCurtain and Tony Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, DeLerise Welden; and sons, Paul and Mark.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at the First Church of Christ, S. Business 31, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Shane Capps officiating. Burial will take place in Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill.
