John "Big John" W. Langley, 71, Swayzee, passed away unexpectedly at Community Howard Regional Health on Thursday, March 8, 2018. John was born Dec. 19, 1946, to Wayne and Maryrose (Silcox) Langley in Kokomo.
John graduated from Eastern High School in 1965. He will always be remembered as an exceptional basketball player and member of their sectional winning team during his era. John retired from the Chrysler Transmission Plant in 1997 after 30 years of service as a part inspector and union steward. John was a lifetime farmer. His love of farming began at a very young age while working with his dad on their family farm. Recently, he worked for Rex Riggs, with his band of brothers, Ed Graham and Tom Everling, farming each season. He enjoyed being outside and sitting in the seat of the tractor working ground.
John is survived by his daughter, Wendi Langley Atkinson, and son, Christopher Merryman; three grandchildren, Khyrstin (Joshua) Morgan, Dylan Chance and Gabriela Atkinson; two sisters, Rebecca Langley and Linda (Ken) Clark; nephews, Mark (Lisa) Everling and Tyler Clark; and his loving fianceé of many years, Sue Bogue.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Maryrose Langley, and his niece, Traci Everling.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with a celebration of life service at noon, with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating. It was John's wish to be cremated and his ashes returned back to the farmland that he dearly loved.
