Joanna Ruth McDonald passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born May 1, 1941, in Noblesville to her parents, Neal Lewis and Mary Lucille (Findling) Johnson. Her parents preceded her in death.
Joanna graduated from Prairie High School in Tipton County with the Class of 1959 and attended Stephens College in Columbus, Missouri in 1960. She then returned to Indiana to begin working, and decided later to return to college. She chose Indiana University Indianapolis School of Social Work, graduating May 12, 1985, with a bachelor's degree, then completed her master's degree, graduating with high honors on May 11, 1986.
She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, certified on Nov. 13, 1989. She had worked in Indianapolis, Logansport and Vincinnes.
Joanna married Joseph, the love of her life, on June 12, 1991, in Sevier County, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, returning home with her husband to reside near Sharpsville for 27 happy years.
Joanna is survived by her husband, Joseph Ray McDonald, Sharpsville; a brother, Steven H. Johnson, Kokomo; nephews, Matt Johnson, Benbrook, Texas, and Neal Johnson, Indianapolis; stepdaughters, Carmen Valentine, Anderson, and Cathy Cucuz, Fishers, Indiana, and a stepson, Mike McDonald, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Due to her love of animals, especially dogs, we ask that memorial contributions be made in Joanna's memory to the Kokomo Humane Society, 713 N. Elizabeth St., Kokomo, IN 46901.
