Joan M. Peterson, 87, went to be with her Lord at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017. Joan was born Feb. 2, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Hilmer Groth and Verna (Niebuhr) Groth.
Upon Joan's graduation from high school, she went to receive a Bachelor in Education and an Associate in nursing. She began her nursing career in May 1977, spending the majority of time at Howard Community. She was a nurse and an educator. She taught diabetes classes for hundreds of her clients for many years, up until the day of her passing. She made a definite impact on people's lives educating them on the subject. It was her absolute love. Joan was heavily involved in her church and was a member on numerous community committees. She loved to travel. She has visited 48 states and beyond; enjoyed antiquing, and loved spending her time at the lake house. Joan loved her family and holiday gatherings. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her son, Timothy Peterson; daughter, Danel Peterson and husband Charles Johnson; and grandson, Kenneth Peterson and Fiance Joybeth Bryan.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Dian Goodwin.
The family will offer visiting hours from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd.
