Jimmie Collins, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1939, in Alexandria, Indiana, to Vance E. and Annabelle (Jones) Collins. On Aug. 3, 1963, he married Rebecca Pullen at First Baptist Church in Elwood, and she survives.
Jimmie retired in 1997 from Delco Electronics after 38 years of service and had been employed as an engineer. He was a 1957 graduate of Alexandria High School, 1959 graduate of Valparaiso Technical Institute and a 1966 graduate of General Motors Institute.
Jimmie was a history buff who enjoyed swimming, camping, birdwatching, and woodworking. He had been an assistant scout leader and enjoyed hobby model rockets with his children when they were young. Most of all, Jimmie cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Rebecca, he is survived by daughters, Hazel (Steve) White, North Judson, Indiana, and Linda (Alvin Kennedy) Collins, Kokomo; grandchildren, Brandon White, Brent White, Bethany White, April Wray, Austin Wray, Tiana Kennedy, McKenzie Kennedy, Maliah Kennedy, A.J. Kennedy and Javian Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Devan White, Dakota White, Julian White, Jaedon White, and Adalyn Wray; as well as several nieces and nephews and special family friend, Beverly Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; infant daughter, Linda Kay Collins; and brothers, Bobbie Collins and Larry Collins.
A celebration of Jimmie's life will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Richard Stroud officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
