Jeannie Ann (Henger) Baer, 85, formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Kokomo, to Frederick C. and Gladys (Spradling) Henger. On Dec. 28, 1950, she married Ralph Lee Baer, at Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death June 7, 2017.
Jeannie graduated from Kokomo High School in 1949 and attended Indiana University of Kokomo. She worked as an executive secretary to Alden P. Chester at Globe American in Kokomo, to Robert L. McMahan, state motor vehicle commissioner in Indianapolis, and to Harold Handley, the 40th governor of the State of Indiana. She retired from Dorothy Edwards Realtors, where she began working in 1969.
Jeannie was an avid reader and gardener and enjoyed traveling, cooking, feeding family and friends, and needlework, including cross-stitch, needlepoint and especially knitting and making beautiful Afghans for family and friends. She loved all animals but especially her beloved dogs that she was anxiously waiting to see again. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority, Chapter BW P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie A. (Timothy) Pierce, Cincinnati; stepgranddaughters, Erin (Michael) Siragusa and Jackie (Ryan) Phillips, all of Cincinnati; stepgreat-grandsons, Grayson Kaylor, Colton Phillips and Quinn Siragusa, all of Cincinnati; sister-in-law, Donna Baer, Kokomo; nephew, Scott Baer, Kokomo; and niece, Suzanne (John) Johnson, Michigan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick C. Henger and Gladys Henger Good; infant brother, Robert C. Henger; infant sister, Patricia A. Henger; brother-in-law, Charles J. Baer; aunt, "Dee Dee" Glee Keith; and niece, Becky Baer.
