Jean Ellen (Powell) Tucker, 91, Kokomo, passed away at 2:28 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Marion, the daughter of Harold and Myrtle (Runolds) Powell. On Aug. 24, 1947, she married Paul Edwin Tucker who preceded her in death July 21, 1979.
Jean was a 1943 graduate of Marion High School and had attended Indiana University. She retired in 1999 from Taylor School Corporation after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Cheer Guild, Tri Kappa Sorority, the Kokomo Tennis Club, and the Kokomo County Club, where she was active in the women's golf league. She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church. Jean was active in her Bridge group and PEO Chapter BU. She loved to bake, sew, and work crossword puzzles "in ink" and tend to her beautiful flowers.
Jean was the matriarch who gave great guidance to her children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She was her children's best friend.
Jean is survived by her children, Teresa Tucker Wright, Nancy Tucker (Steve) Cook, and Paul Bradley (Stacy) Tucker; grandchildren, Amanda Wright (Bob) Jarrett, Bradley Judson Wright, Steven Tyler (Cyrena) Cook, Jonathan Clayton (Hannah) Cook, Kaitlianna Jean Tucker and Quinten Michael Tucker; and great-grandchildren, Henry Thomas Cook, James Stephen Cook, Catherine Jean Cook, Rowan William Jarrett and Greylan Sway Jarrett.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Mary Virginia DeBoo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
