Janet Marjorie Showalter, 88, Kokomo, passed away at 5:31 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Kokomo, to M.E. and Margaret (Brumit) Hicks. On June 10, 1951, she married David R. Showalter, at Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2006.
Janet graduated from Kokomo High School in 1946 and earned her bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University in 1950. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Chapter BI PEO Sisterhood, Northside SCORE & WINS Club, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis Symphony and the DAR. She was also a charter member of the Northside YMCA and was a 50-year member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Chuck (Melinda) Showalter, Kokomo; daughter, Barbara (Harold) Pakula, Lake Oswego, Oregon; grandchildren, Alex Pakula, Portland, Oregon, Douglas Showalter, Nashville, Tennessee, and Ryan Showalter, Indianapolis; step-grandchildren, Kristin (Steve Cassidy) McCauley, Russiaville, and David (Jessica) Seitz, Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff of Waterford Place for the care given to Janet over the past year.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, with Pastor Steven Conger officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Albright Cemetery in Kokomo. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
