James "Jim" Calvin Heckman was born in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 24, 1930, to Elmer L and Mary E (Shuster) Heckman, and he passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017. He married Merlaya (Pence) Heckman on June 23, 1952.
Graduated from Leechburg High School in 1948 and worked at Continental Steel in the hot mill and tag department for 34 years. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and sports.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years; two sons, Douglas (Angela) Heckman, Kokomo, Daniel (Carrie) Heckman, Wisconsin; grandchildren, James E (Tishelle) Heckman, Jennifer (Ryan Cordray) Crow, Matthew Heckman, all of Kokomo, and Jacob (Christine) Heckman, Noblesville; stepgrandchildren, Tim (Jenny) Zirkle, Ben (Pattie) Zirkle, Kokomo, Michael (Jamie) Wolski, Sara (Matt) Napreilla, James (Hanah Peterson) Wolski, Kayla Wolski, all of Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Grayden Crow, Madison Crow, Jaxton Heckman, Cohen Heckman; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Dailynn Zirkle, Palmer Zirkle, Lilly Zirkle, Jacob Zirkle, Maggie Zirkle, Cameron Harris, Zane Cordray, Harper Wolski and Avery Wolski; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Heckman.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Entombment will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at the mortuary.
