James DeWitt, 79, Russiaville, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Golden Living Center Sycamore Village. He was born June 2, 1938, in Tipton to Doyle and Rosalie (Smith) DeWitt. On Aug. 8, 1959, James married Connie L. Claar, and she survives.
James was a 1957 Kokomo High School graduate and retired from Delco Electronics after 24 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, UAW 292, Green Acres Golf Course. James loved to play horseshoes, golf and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Connie DeWitt, Russiaville; son Bryan J. DeWitt, Peru; daughters, Toni R. (Tommy) Cooke, Bristol, Tennessee, Tammy L. Newton, Kokomo; brothers, Dick DeWitt, Mike Dewitt; grandchildren, Kim DeWitt, Randy DeWitt, Janelle Bannat, Nicolas Converse, Brittany Convers, Andrea Abshter, Jessica Lovely, Brielle Newton, Christian DeWitt, Brooklyn DeWitt; and 25 great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Rosalie DeWitt; brother, Bob DeWitt; grandson, Michael Bowman.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stout & Son Funeral Home 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Michael Hollaway officiating. Burial will follow at New London Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
