James Richard DeLano, 82, Kokomo, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. He was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Hamilton, Ohio to Alfred Raymond and Bernice (Weisbrodt) DeLano. On June 16, 1979, he married Evelyn Myers who survives.
James was employed with Chrysler Corp. as a machinist, retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service.
James had a sense of humor that will be missed by many, especially those he teased. A God-fearing man who loved the Lord, James was a member of Faith Church of Christ for many years. He loved motorcycles and enjoyed taking motorcycle trips. One of his favorite trips was to the Dakotas with friends. Most of all, he was a loving husband and father who cherished time spent with family.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn DeLano; children, Pam DeLano, Maria (Manuel) Garcia, Mary (Charles A.) Shaffer, Angela Shaffer and John DeLano; stepsons, Greg (Jill) Ratliff and Don (Mari) Ratliff; 32 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and a half-brother, Pat DeLano
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred R. DeLano and Bernice Raines; children, James R. DeLano Jr, Rebecca Chavez and Joseph DeLano; grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith and Patricia Lynn DeLano; half-brothers, Steve DeLano and Bruce Raines; and stepbrothers, Tommy Raines and Creston Raines.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at Faith Church of Christ, 1701 S. Michigan St., Burlington, with Pastor Michael Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church of Christ.
