J Lindley Mitchell, 78, Kokomo and formerly of the Scircleville area in Clinton County, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Primrose Retirement Community, in Kokomo, after a lengthy illness with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born December 24, 1939, in Tipton County, to Bernard and Mary Ellen (Lindley) Mitchell. On June 6, 1959, he married Jane Moore, and on December 28, 2002, they renewed their vows. Jane passed away on February 4, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. In 2012, J met Jean Tingle, and they became good companions.
J was a 1958 graduate of Forest High School. He loved to farm and was a farmer for 44 years before retiring from that profession in 2003. He was a member of West Point Christian Church, in Russiaville, and attended Crossroads Community Church in Kokomo. He was proud to have served as a member on the Clinton Central School Board from 1980 to 1988 and was a supporter the FFA there as well. He also served on the Farm Credit Services of Mid America Advisory Board of Lafayette from 1990 to 2000.
He was a great cook and loved hosting family and friends at his home. He was a loving and generous caregiver and a great role model. He enjoyed respecting his ancestors and ensured that their gravesites did not fall into disrepair. He also loved camping and traveling on family vacations and passed on that love to his family. He had traveled to many of the states and adored relaxing on the beach. His grandsons were his pride and joy, and he loved attending their school and sporting events. He also spent many hours studying and playing the stock markets and commodities.
Survivors include his companion, Jean Tingle Mitchell; two daughters, Marsha (Mark) Dodge, of Fort Myers, Florida, and Tracey (Mike) Dickerson, of Rossville; four grandsons, Todd (Heather) Dodge, Dirk Dodge, Mitchell Dickerson and David Dickerson; one great-grandson, Dominic Dodge; two step-daughters, Faith Tingle and Christian Kunik; three step-grandsons, Jacob, Chris and Hunter; sister, Betty Zirkle, of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
