Ina B. Carpenter
Ina graduated from St. Bernard High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She went on to marry William Carpenter on June 21, 1947. He passed on Feb. 29, 1993.
Ina and her husband worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, New Mexico, for several years. Ina volunteered often and was very active in her community. While raising her younger daughter, Barby, Ina served as room mother in her school. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Art Club, president of the Newcomer's Club in Gas City, Wapahani Girl Scout Council leader troop 110, and Cookie Cupboard. When she wasn't volunteering, Ina had a green thumb and loved to care for her plants. She always loved plants over flowers. Her grandson, Billy, and his children brought her the most happiness after her husband passed.
Ina leaves behind her daughters, Barby Suffield, of Kokomo, and Susan Turner; sister, Mary Louise Harju, of Springfield, Missouri; grandson, William "Billy" (Savanna) Suffield, of Kokomo; great-grandchildren, Izabella, William, and Noah Suffield; and several nieces and nephews.
Ina was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers.
Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, also at the mortuary.
Ina will be laid to rest at Grant Memorial Park following the service.
