Herman's Story

Herman E. Kinzie passed away at 11:22 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 8, 1933, in Bunker Hill, Indiana, to Clayson and Wilma Kinzie. He married Wanda Marie Hays, Ludington, Michigan, on May 31, 1959, at the United Methodist Church in Bunker Hill, and they were married 55 years.
He graduated from Bunker Hill High School and during his school years, he enjoyed being mascot for the basketball team. Herman served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked at Chrysler Corp. and retired after 30 years. He was a 50-year member of the Bunker Hill Fish and Game Club, a lifetime member of the NRA and VFW, served as a manager and umpire for the Bunker Hill Little League for nine years, enjoyed watching the Colts and Pacers, and was overjoyed when the Cubs finally won the World Series. He and Wanda enjoyed fishing in Arkansas for two months every year for more than 37 years.
Survivors include his children, Tammi M. Kinzie and Mark Bowers, Wabash, and Herman (Karla) Kinzie Jr., Peru. He had seven grandchildren, Michael (Stacey) Meredith, North Manchester, Christopher (Andrea) Meredith, Wabash, Brady and Brandon Baker, Peru, and Zachary Kinzie, Peru; six great-grandchildren, Ali and Finnley Meredith, Emily Meredith, Mary Young, Adella Grace Meredith, and Landyn Baker. Herman also had one brother and six sisters, Donald (Carolyn) Kinzie, Ruby Wilhite, Dulcina (Larry) Walls, Patricia (John) Cress, Carol Sue Bruce, Betty Church, Wilma Little; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda; and one brother, Gary Allen Kinzie.
Viewing will be 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Billy Sheets officiating. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill. Military rites will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites team.
