Harold Scott Rutherford

Harold Scott Rutherford, 88, Kokomo, passed away in his home Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana, April 15, 1931, to Alonzo and Margaret (Graves) Rutherford.
Harold was the very first class president and part of the first graduating class of Western High School in 1949. Nov. 25, 1953, Harold married the love of his life, Phillis Wellinger, in Nogales, Mexico. Together they raised four children. Harold was a proud Navy veteran, having served in the early 1950s at the end of the Korean War. Once he returned to Kokomo, Harold went to work for Delco and spent the next 37 years with them, retiring in the early 1980s. He was an avid ball player and coached little league and women's softball. Harold was a founding member of We Care and sold many ears of corn at Haynes-Apperson Festival to benefit We Care. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed fishing, especially at the cabin on Lake Shafer. Most of all, he loved his family, spending as much time as he could with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Harold is survived by his wife, Phillis; children, Pam Hobbs, Cheryl (Mike) Pearce, Vicki Rutherford and Kevin Rutherford; siblings, Robert (Anna Mae), Fred (Clara), Wayne (Connie) and Carolyn (Rick) Shilling; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim, Kenneth and Loretta; and his son-in-law, Roger Hobbs.
Family will receive friends from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, with service to follow at 4 p.m.

Always had such great time at the ball field, and the lake! Summers I'll always keep close to my heart. Uncle Harold, you will be truly missed. Give dad a hug from me.
