Harold Charles Garrison, 88, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, formerly of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Lula (Rhyne) and Gus Garrison.
Harold graduated from Gastonia High School in 1947 and entered the U.S. Air Force. Harry spent 28 years in the Air Force. In 1952, he was assigned to Moses Lake, Washington, 62nd Troop Carrier Wing (C-124). He flew to Alaska to supply the outposts on the Aleutian Chain, took supplies to Point Barrow, Alaska, for the defense "early warning system" and took supplies to many other outposts in Alaska.
In 1956, he was sent to Washington, District of Columbia, for training, after which he was assigned to the Embassy's Air Attaché Office in New Delhi, India. Other attaché assignments included Burma, Mexico City, Finland, Chad, Africa, and Madagascar. He retired in 1975.
In 1969, while in Helskini, Finland, he met Beverly (Nein) Tupper, while she was working at the U.S. Embassy. They were married Sept. 12, 1970. They lived in Kokomo, Indiana, from 1975 until their move to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, in the early 1990s. They moved to Chippewa Falls in June 2011 to be near Beverly's family.
Harry was a member of the Lutheran Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he was baptized and confirmed, and was a member of Fairfield Glad Community Church prior to his move to Chippewa Falls. Shortly after his move, in October 2011, he became a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Master Mason affiliated with the Greentown Lodge 341 in Greentown, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly, Chippewa Falls; nephews, Steve Mack, Belmont, North Carolina, John Mack, Gastonia, North Carolina; Beverly's niece, Sherrie (Doyle) Richards, Chippewa Falls; and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janelle Mack.
Services with military honors will be held in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, on Dec. 2, 2017.
