George A. Howell, 88, Greentown, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. He was born Nov. 14, 1929, near Greentown, to Cliffton E. and Elba (Cranor) Howell. On April 2, 1949, he married Carolyn L. Petro, in Greentown, and she survives.
George graduated from Greentown High School in 1948. He was a farmer all of his life and owned and operated Greentown Equipment for 55 years, from 1960 to 2015, until his retirement. In 1974, he served as president of the Indiana Equipment Dealers Association. He enjoyed watching Purdue sporting events and was a member of Macedonia Christian Church and a former member of the Greentown Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn Howell, he is survived by his children, Dana A. Brovont, Greentown, Brad (Tammy) Howell, Greentown, and Michael L. (Cathy) Howell, Warsaw; grandchildren, Dawn (Greg) Guffey, Darren (Andrea) Brovont, Bethany (Jason) Wanza, Zach (Candice) Howell, Baxter (Katlyn) Howell, Brice (Quenci) Howell, Blake Howell, Justin (Lauren) Howell and Derek Howell; and 10 great-grandchildren, Alysa, Gavin, Porter, Hayden, Laila, Jaxson, Cole, Cayden, Memphis and Grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Thomas and Richard Howell; and son-in-law, Karl Brovont.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Macedonia Christian Church, 1532 S. 500 East, Kokomo, with the Revs. Jay Hardison and John Piotrowicz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
