George R. Gardineer, 86, Kokomo, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at McKinney Place assisted living facility in Logansport. George was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Kokomo to George S. and Edna Gardineer.
George found himself in California in the late 1950s, where he met and eventually married his soulmate, Dorisann Baldwin, on Nov. 19, 1960, and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his three children, George S. Gardineer (Bonnie), Peru, Robin R. Harper (Roger), Peru, and Samantha J. Gardineer (Allen), Townsend, Tennessee.
George also had five grandchildren, George Jr. and Becka Gardineer, Seth and Mollie Harper and Fayne Lawson, and six great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Sharon Johnson, Kokomo, who preceded him in death, and Sandra Tally, San Bernadino, California, and several nieces and nephews.
George was a retired member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 440. In his younger days, George worked in California as a union painter and enjoyed telling his friends and family stories of how he met many Hollywood stars and starlets while painting their homes.
George and his wife of 53 years, Dorisann, enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards and gatherings with family and friends, especially huge barbecues that he would throw every summer. He was an excellent husband, father and grandfather, who was greatly loved by his family.
Although George often had a gruff exterior, he was one of the kindest and most loyal friends anyone could wish for. It was often said he would give the shirt off of his back for someone in need. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no public funeral services. A private family service will take place at a later date. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your favorite charity in his name.
