On Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, the trumpets sounded and the gates of Heaven opened and Gary was called home.
On July 24, 1952, Gary Lynn "Pick" Pickering was born in Tennessee, the son of Kyle and Eva (McAmis) Pickering. As a young boy, Gary worked for his father's business, Kyle Pickering Gravel in Kokomo, as a loader operator. He retired from Waste Management after more than 19 years of service as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Teamsters.
Gary loved tending to and mowing his yard, which there was never a weed in, and taking care of his flowers. He had a passion for cars and trucks, spending countless hours making them shine. His other love was drinking his Old Milwaukee Beer.
Gary is survived by his soul mate, Seirra Sue Caine; mother, Eva Pickering; children, Michelle Carver, Jim Pickering, Thomas (Shana) Caine and Elizabeth (Mike) Degraffenreid; grandchildren, Matthew (Porsche) Carver, Thomas Caine Jr., Parker Caine, Trenton Pickering, Kyler Pickering, Lukas Degraffenreid and Jax Pickering; great-grandchildren, Aria Soper, Kaison Carver and Weston Carver; sisters, Della Diane Pickering (Sam Kuntz) and Jill Pickering (Mike May); special aunt, Marlene Ross; special cousin, Chris Ross; along with several cousins and his best friend, Marty Davis.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Kyle Pickering; and grandmothers, Lura McAmis and Molly Pickering.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Joe Wampler officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
