Frederick E. Hilligoss, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 7:42 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at Aperion Health Care, where he had been a resident for the past nine years; his family was at his bedside.
Fred was born Oct. 29, 1933, to Rolden G. Hilligoss and Betty (Bartolski) Hilligoss in Kokomo. He had a strong Christian faith, which helped him to endure pain over the last five years without complaining about his lot in life. He looked forward to the promises of God when this life was over.
Fred was a talented musician who played the accordion, piano and organ. For years he had played for the Aperion residents and staff at mealtimes, on holidays, and on other special occasions. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Fred is survived by one brother, Robert Hilligoss, Kokomo; two nieces, Linda (Jim) Bennett, Kokomo, and Cynthia (Merrill) Shrock, Greentown; three nephews, Robert (Sue) Hilligoss II, Greentown, Thomas (Sauni) Hilligoss Jr., and Steve Hillis, Lafayette.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rolden G. Hilligoss Jr. and Thomas J. Hilligoss Sr., and one sister, Doris P. Hillis.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Jeff Thayer, Delmar Stockwell and Janet Nicol officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo Military Rites Team.
