Freda Christina Poppas Tranbarger passed away peacefully in her sleep early morning of Feb. 9, 2018, in Los Gatos, California. She was born April 25, 1925, in Shepardsville, Indiana, daughter of George and Mary (Phipps) Poppas.
Freda graduated from Kokomo High School in 1943 and worked as a secretary at Continental Steel and Haynes Stellite.
Freda married John Edward Tranbarger on Christmas Eve 1943. They were married for over 50 years before Johnny passed away Aug. 29, 1995. While in Kokomo, she and Johnny were very active in Civic Theatre. They moved to Los Gatos, California, in 1960. Bert Johnson and Freda were married in 1998 and enjoyed two years before Bert passed away.
Freda is survived by her son, Tim Tranbarger (Stephanie), Casteinau le Lee, France; five grandchildren, Heather Solomon, Cotton (Solomon) Hanson (Jeff), Portland, Oregon, and Liam, Lorian and Lohen Tranbarger; three great-grandchildren, Candace, Dianna and Cayla; two brothers, John (Marianne) and Tom (Betty) Poppas; four sisters, Wilhelmine Warren, Grace (Dale) Kingseed, Vanetta (George) Beckman, Phoebe (Lee) Carter; brother-in-law, Mayo Nielsen.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara Lee; her parents; brothers, Ed (Ann) and George (Sue) Poppas; and four sisters, Anna Kleiber, Dorothy (Max) Mast, Bea Nielsen, Mary Louise (Bob) Miller.
A graveside service took place Feb. 17, 2018, at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton, Indiana.
