Fred W. "Bud" Kearnes, 74, Kokomo, passed away at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at his home. He was born May 31, 1943, in Fort Wayne, to Carl and Alice (Osborne) Kearnes. On April 26, 2006, he married Cami McKown, in Cape Coral, Florida, and she survives.
Bud served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 and was owner and operator of Bud's Auto Sales until his retirement on June 1, 2016. He sponsored and owned sprint cars for several years and enjoyed fishing and boating and loved playing cards. Bud always said he was a member of good standing at Sam's Club. He was a member of American Legion Post 317.
In addition to his wife, Cami Kearnes, he is survived by his children, Sherry (Ryan) Nehl, John Day, Oregon, Jeff (Tammy) Kearnes, Kokomo, Annette (Lee) Aumsbaugh, Columbia City, Molly (Teddy) Funk, Terre Haute, Stephanie (fiance Mike Brantley) Hendricks, Greentown, and Michele (Kirtis) Denham, Cape Coral, Florida; 19 grandchildren; and two brothers, Steve Kearnes, Kokomo, and Rick Kearnes, Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patty D'Onofrio.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at the Kokomo Shrine Club, 3892 E. 00 NS, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Shrine Club.
