Evelyn J. Maugans

Evelyn J. Maugans, 94, North Manchester, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester. She was born April 25, 1917, in Miami County, the daughter of William J. and Hazel J. (Wrights) Mills, and raised by her stepmother, Margaret Mills. On Feb. 28, 1935, she married Willis W. Maugans, who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2006.. Evelyn was a 1934 graduate of Bunker Hill High School. She had been employed at Vickery Tape, Dukes Hospital in Peru, Monticello Public Library and was a matron with the Caldwell Home for Women. She was a member at Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren, Home Demonstration Club in Pipe Creek and Monticello and the Literary Club of Bunker Hill.. Surviving are son, J. Conrad and wife Jo Ella Maugans, Kokomo; daughter-in-law, Linda Maugans, Kokomo; grandchildren, Cary Middlekauff and Terri Railey, both of Kokomo, Tim Middlekauff, Peru, Laney Dezelan, Fishers, Lisa Driver and Stacy Maugans, both of Valparaiso, and Kristen Lynch, Blanchardville, Wis.; and 10 great-grandchildren.. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Terrance and Stephen; daughter-in-law, Judith Maugans; and one brother.. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester, with Pastor Ed Johnson and Chaplain Carol Pfeiffer officiating. Private burial will be in Metzger Cemetery, Miami County. Friends may call from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Timbercrest Senior Living Community, P.O. Box 501, North Manchester, IN 46962, or to the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren, 4483 W. 400 South, Peru, IN 46970, with envelopes available.
