Events

Essie Lee Horton passed away Sept. 2, 2018, at Community Howard Regional Health, Kokomo. He was born April 12, 1946, to the late John Horton and Della Francis (Ivey). He was married to Phyllis (Todder) Horton for more than 30 years before she passed away in 2006.
Essie worked for Townsend Tree Service for more than 30 years. His favorite thing to do was play poker, whether it be at a casino or a friend's house, he found a table to sit down at. He was a wheeler and dealer, always looking for the next pick! In his younger years, Essie had a classic car and always dreamed of having another. Essie's main joy in life was spending time with his grandkids. He thought, wondered and talked about them all of the time. Essie was always taking care of people, and those people will miss him dearly.
Those preceded in death by Essie are his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Kay Horton-Owsley; brothers, Bud and John Horton; sisters, Doris, Louise, and Oni Beckman (John).
He is survived by his son, Essie Horton Jr. (Misty); sisters, Jenny (Dempsey) King and Bea Bolinger; and grandchildren, John Morthland, Collin and Zachary Horton, and Logan, Matthew and Abigail Shook.
Funeral services for Essie will be at noon Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Chapel, with Pastor Fritz Siddall officiating. The family will offer visiting hours prior from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette, Indiana.
