Erma "Marlene" Meeks, 86, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.
Marlene was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Kokomo to Errett and Bernice Nutt. She had a fond and warm relationship with both of her parents in both childhood and later into adulthood. She has always had a strong bond and connection to family, loved talking about her grandmother, and what her travels with her meant throughout her life. Marlene graduated from Kokomo High School in 1949 and maintained friendships with all of her girlfriends throughout her life. She later worked a few different jobs before ultimately starting her career at Delco Electronics, where she met her future husband before retiring after a career spanning over 20 years.
In retirement Marlene spent a great amount of time with her loving family. Marlene and her husband Buddy, enjoyed traveling, dancing, sitting on the porch with their wind chimes, and every now and then visiting a riverboat casino for a fun day out. Some of their special trips included the house on the rock in Wisconsin and Gulfport, Mississippi. Marlene and Buddy were active members at Fairfield Christian Church in Kokomo, where they appreciated the fellowship and friendship that this church community had to offer them.
Marlene loved reading, crochet, puzzles, shopping with daughters where she was just a "Hooty Hoo" away, playing euchre with her grandchildren, and spending as much time as should could in her garden pulling weeds. As a hobby later in life, she had fun exploring her genealogy and family tree where she discovered that her ancestors arrived on the Mayflower. Her sense of humor, her charm, and laugh were absolutely contagious to everyone around her.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jim "Buddy" Meeks; her sister, Marilyn Morgan; her two sons and their spouses, Raymond and Theresa Christine, Kokomo, David and Gayle Christine, Oklahoma; her two daughters and their spouses, Mary and Robin Dodd, Kokomo, Carol and Mark Hooker, Kokomo, and stepdaughter, Debbie (Chris) Riffe; 11 grandchildren, Katherine Ashley, Sarah Rodgers, Kimberly Duval, Matthew Christine, Alex Christine, Lydia Christine, Emily Hooker, Abby Hooker, Jessica Dodd, Melissa Dodd, and Laura Dodd; and two great-granddaughters, Emma Grace Ashley and Madeline Christine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jonathan Hooker.
The family would also like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Sondi Bowley, and the St. Vincent's Hospice nurses during this sensitive time.
