Elma Rose (Russell) Anderson, 90, Kokomo, Indiana, went home to her heavenly father at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, peacefully in her home. She was born March 6, 1927, in Russiaville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ernest and Adrian (Lewis) Russell. On May 31, 1946, she married Norman Lee Anderson, who preceded her in death July 2, 2016. They celebrated 70 years of marriage together prior to Norman's passing.
Elma was a 1945 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired in 1987 after 30 years of dedicated service with Chrysler Corp. She was affectionately known by her coworkers as "Sweet Elma" for her kind, patient and sweet disposition. Elma had a deep faith in God and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking for her family and spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her biggest joy in life, and she was adored by them all.
Elma is survived by her children, Marcia Lee (Michael) Vaughan, Plainfield, Indiana, and Mark Alan Anderson, Kokomo, Indiana; grandchildren, Lee (Sara) Mitchell, Kokomo, and Megan Anderson (mother Lois Anderson), Kokomo; and great-grandchildren, Blake Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Mckenna Mitchell, Austin Mitchell, and Ryleigh Mitchell; sisters, Norma Jean Dalla Betta, California, and Phyllis Roosendaal, Utah.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Nancy Gersch.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Elma's caregivers: Brook Costello, Tony Taflinger, Gayle Tolle and Anissa Hodge for their loving care, and also to Kelley King and Nancy Winterbottom, who loved Elma as their own mother, spending many hours fussing over and spoiling her. The family would also like to thank Guardian Angel Hospice for her excellent care.
Private services are planned for family and close friends. Memorial contributions may be made in Elma's memory to the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 7725 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46240.
A graveside celebration of Elma's life will be on the 72nd wedding anniversary of Norman and Elma at Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery in Wabash. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
