Eleanor Ann Sands, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Community Howard Regional Health. She was born May 6, 1933, in Greentown to Everett and Ruby (DeWitt) Carlile. On April 23, 1956, she married Herbert L. Sands, who preceded her in death Nov. 21, 2016.
Eleanor was a loving homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as tending a garden. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family.
Eleanor is survived by four children, Rick (Jackie) Carlile, Roger Sands, Brenda Sands and Ronda (Ronald) Tedder; eight grandchildren, Brett (Peggy) Carlile, Travis Carlile (Bobbi Thompson), Matt (Tara) Carlile, Heather Sands, Amy (Darren) Longenecker, Billy (Amy) Lytle, Carrie Lytle (Eric Zeman) and Jessica (Shane) Kuefner; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Chelsea Davenport, Veva Vaughn, and Ruby (Lawrence) Hudson; several nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert (Fontella) Sands, Josephine Nicely, Roy Burchell, and Evelyn Sands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and five brothers.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday Jan. 9, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with John Piotrowicz officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
