Edgar Lawrence Banks, 81, San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. Edgar was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Lancaster (Wabash County), Illinois, to Noble A. Banks and Ethel M. (Sprinkle) Banks. He graduated from Western High School, Howard County, Indiana, in 1954 and married Norma Leon Craft in 1956.
After his graduation from Purdue University in 1959, he joined the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Edgar served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts while stationed in Virginia and Texas. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1980, he served as the director of public works for the city of Weatherford, Texas, until his retirement in 1998.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Robert Banks; and daughter, Barbara Annette (Banks) Maddox.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Banks; daughter, Nancy Sue Kloboucnik and husband Edwin, San Angelo, Texas; son, Jon Michael Banks and wife, Liza, Austin, Texas; sister, Norma Jean (Banks) Garner, Hartford City, Indiana; brother, Roger Banks and wife Marilyn, Sherman, Texas; and three granddaughters, Chloe Banks, Amanda Maddox and Meghan Maddox.
Edgar was cremated and the ashes will be interred in Indiana at a later date. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charitable organization.
