Dorothy Irene Hankins, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo, surrounded by her family. Born Jan. 8, 1929, in Kokomo, she was the daughter of the late William Bryan Heathcoat and Nellie M. (Reynolds) Heathcoat.
She was a 1947 graduate of Kokomo High School. She was employed with Delco Electronics for 33 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of U.A.W. Local 292. She was an I.U. fan and enjoyed going to her grandkids' games. She was a Jimmy Rayl and Elvis Presley fan.
Survivors include daughters, Kathy (Lynn) Jernagan, Kokomo, and Jo Ellen Siefers, Russiaville; three grandchildren, Messina (Shane) McGraw, Shannon Anderson and Scott (Amy) Aeschliman; and great-grandchildren Charlotte Brianne, Jamie and Tori, Michael, Aubrey, Alexa, and Jo'siyah. There are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Heathcoat and Charles Heathcoat; two sisters, Shirley Massey and Margaret Anne Heathcoat.
A special thanks is extended to Community Howard Regional, Dr. Tracy Price, Wellbrooke of Kokomo, Guardian Angel Hospice, and all the doctors who cared for Dorothy.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo. Pastor Terry Russell will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
