Doris Lavon (Marquand) Gross, 86, passed away at her home at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. She was born to Howard and Sylvia (Tilly) Marquand on May 23, 1931, in Kokomo.
Doris was a 1949 graduate from Kokomo High School. She started working as a cashier for Indiana Bell Telephone. She married her first husband, Thomas V. Small in June 1950. She later worked as a medical receptionist and a medical transcriptionist in the lab at St. Joseph Hospital. After the death of her first husband, she married John M. Gross on Nov. 5, 1965.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, being a talented artist, and spending time with her family. Doris had a comical zest for life. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband, John; her four children, C. Lynn (Small) (Greg) Enstrom, Tamara (Small) (Don) Jarvis, Kelly (Gross) (Steve) Schaub, Brett (Kelli) Gross; a brother, Thomas (Janice) Marquand, Kendallville; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Ross, and a brother, Harry Marquand.
A celebration on life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with the Rev. Gregory Enstrom officiating. The family will offer visiting hours between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris's honor to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
