Donna E. Surbey, 79, Kokomo, passed away at 2:14 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at her home. She was born July 17, 1938, in Howard County, the daughter of the late William J. and Florence Pearl (Hyde) Shanks.
Donna was a homemaker who enjoyed babysitting for friends and family. Her hobbies included singing, reading and bowling on the local women's league. She attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.
Donna is survived by her children, Pam (Dave) Huffman, Karen (Jeff) Simmons, Sharon (Michael) Hafley and Stephanie Youngman, all of Kokomo; son-in-law, Fred Scott, Kokomo; siblings, James (Sharon) Shanks, Ocala, Florida, and Janine Harless, Kokomo; grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Surbey, Alyssa Simmons, Casey Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Ashleigh (Cyrus) Alexander, Sarah Hafley, Rachel Hafley, Alexia (Craig) Ridener, Autumn Rose, Elainie Poynter, Ashton Poynter, Skiler Youngman, Melissa (Fredrick) Wisehart and Justin (Amanda) Collins; along with 12 great-grandchildren; the father of her children, Bruce Surbey; and best friend, Doris Richardson.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kimberly Scott; and siblings, William Shanks, Robert Shanks, Larry Shanks, Shirley Hesselman, Marilyn Willits and Doris Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard St., Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Kendall Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donna's memory to the American Cancer Society. Stout & Son Funeral Home in Russiaville is assisting the family with arrangements.
