Donald E Hicks Donald E. Hicks, 76, of Kokomo, formerly of Walton, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at his home. He was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Frank and Lilly (Little) Hicks. Don married Judy A. Semencar on Jan. 28, 1961, in South Carolina. They were married for 48 wonderful years. Judy preceded him in death July 12, 2009. Don never expected to find love again but he did in Betty Dean. They had nine amazing years together and were married on Nov. 17, 2018.
Don owned and operated Conn-Sturm-Hicks Insurance Agency in Walton for many years. He purchased the business in 1975 and retired in 2010. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Walton American Legion Post 418 in Walton. Don enjoyed playing golf, fishing trips to Canada, playing poker and traveling. One of his favorite places to go was the Beaux Eden Plantation in Fort Valley, Georgia. Don served his country in the Army during Vietnam. Don loved life and lived it to the fullest.
Surviving family include his wife, Betty Hicks, of Kokomo; his children, Dawn Miller, Indianapolis; Jeff (Melissa) Hicks, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Beth McCurdy and fiancée Todd Pitman of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Jennifer (Kiel) Christianson of Mahomet, Illinois. Don is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Sean Hicks, Houston, Texas; Shea Germany, Denton, Texas; Alexander Hicks, Bozeman, Montana; Andy Miller, Denver, Colorado; Danny Miller, Carmel; Izzie Miller, Carmel; Kaitlyn McCurdy, Marion, Illinois; Olivia McCurdy, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Sophie and Erik Christianson, Mahomet, Illinois; one great-grandchild, Charlie Elizabeth McCurdy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; step-children, Kimberly Todd, Jacksonville, Florida; Timothy Zehring, Jacksonville, Florida; Kathryn Gillespie, Kokomo; Matthew Reese, Fort Myers, Florida; 11 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and a "special granddaughter" Hailey Fagan; sister-in-law, Brenda Hicks; brothers-in-law, Doug Semencar, Dale Semencar and Jim Conklin; one niece, Andrea Hicks Brock; and one nephew Chris Hicks.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, brother Otis Hicks, and son-in-law, Doug Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, with Pastor Joe Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phi Delta Kappa or Northview Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Murray Weaver Funeral Home.
